Announcing General Availability of Automatic Aggregations

Today, we are excited to announce General Availability (GA) of automatic aggregations, along with several important improvements. By using automatic aggregations in Power BI Premium, you can unlock cloud-scale data volumes for interactive analysis. Automatic aggregations import data into the dataset only at the aggregated level while leaving the detail data at the source to minimize data duplication. In this way, most BI queries can benefit from Power BI’s blazing fast query performance in import mode, while occasional detail queries can still work transparently against the data source in DirectQuery mode.

 

Composite Models on SQL Server Analysis Services

SQL Server 2022 Analysis Services will support composite models and it is now ready for you to try out with the CTP2 that has just launched. After you install this CTP for SQL Server 2022 on a server, tabular models are hosted on that server can now be used to create a composite model with.

SandDance Power BI Custom Visual updates

SandDance is a data visualization tool developed by the VIDA (Visualization and Interactive Data Analysis) team at Microsoft Research and is available as a custom visual for Power BI. SandDance uses unit visualizations, which apply a one-to-one mapping between rows in your data and marks on the screen. We have exciting updates coming for this visual!

Coming soon: Changes to the Power BI service – simpler navigation, improvements to lists on Home, and style updates

We continue to iteratively improve experiences that help you find relevant content and return to your work in the Power BI service. Upon hearing your feedback, conducting usability tests, and running successful A/B experiments we’re sharing the following changes coming to all users in early June 2022. Here’s what’s coming: Navigation changes – the introduction of the Browse page which merges Favorites, Recent, and Shared with me. Changes to Home – improved lists on Home now show all content for those lists, not just the first 12. We also added filters and the ability to search those lists in-page. Style updates – Power BI styles (colors, icons, fonts, and more) will be updated to align with the Fluent design system.

 

Announcing general availability of the ExecuteQueries REST API

We are happy to announce that the ExecuteQueries REST API is now GA. By using this REST API, you can query datasets in Power BI from practically any modern environment on any platform, as long as you can authenticate with Azure Active Directory (AAD) and construct a Web request. The query functionality is comparable to XMLA read access, yet avoids dependencies on Analysis Services client libraries, requires no connection to XMLA endpoints, and works in Premium workspaces as well as in ordinary workspaces.
